Exploring Germany, and the world, one beer at a time
It’s not 100% clear but there are said to be between 5,000 and 7,000 different beers in Germany, brewed in around 1,300 breweries.
We’re going to review as many of them as possible.
There are over 300 breweries in Denmark (remember, they only have a population of 6 million, so that’s a lot! We will try and get through as many of those as possible too. Their IPAs are something else!
Getting stuck in Oberfranken
Oberfranken (“Upper Franconia” doesn’t sound right!), in northern Bavaria, has 20 breweries per 100k capita (200 breweries for their 1 million residents) and produces over 1,000 different beers.
Bamberg, the little Franconian city of 70,000 people shown in the pic above, is known as Germany’s beer capital, with 11 working breweries producing 50 different beers. There are 53 breweries In the greater Bamberg municipality and 300 more nearby making it harder to make this a travel blog.
More beers every day.

AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER

I’m not sure I’ll ever be a fan of Rauchbier. But I was never a fan of peaty Islay whisky. For now I’ll say that this is an interesting flavour if you’re looking for something very different. It’s a heavy, powerful flavour but not too heavy on the stomach.

1664 BLANC

A light-bodied, refreshing French witbier. Blanc is beautifully crafted and packaged in these small, pretty, blue bottle preparing you for something special. There’s no doubt that the whole experience impacts the perception of the delicate, citrus aromas and subtle flavours. I really think it would be just as good in a bigger glass. I really…

TWO FLINTS, SANTIAGO

Two Flints Santiago Tate Modern Art Museum is one of my favourite buildings in London. It has such presence and gravitas on the Themes’ south bank. It usually has some very interesting exhibitions too. They could do better at giving more patrons access to this view! MOUTH FEEL: Brewed with extra pale Maris Otter, Torrefied…
