A light-bodied, refreshing French witbier. Blanc is beautifully crafted and packaged in these small, pretty, blue bottle preparing you for something special. There’s no doubt that the whole experience impacts the perception of the delicate, citrus aromas and subtle flavours. I really think it would be just as good in a bigger glass. I really don’t enjoy the feeling of any product being outweighed and out-priced by its packaging.
Witbier the same as Weissbier? I had to Google this for the detail, so here it is in a nutshell.
Firstly, Weizen beers are always made from malted wheat. In Witbiers the wheat is raw.
Secondly, the purist tradition of Weizen beer-making forbids any cereals but wheat, where the Witbier process accepts small amounts of cereals like oat, rye and spelt.
These facts seem to check out but let me know if my facts aren’t 100%.
Another lovely summer afternoon in a Valby garden (Copenhagen). 1664 Blanc is a perfect warm, afternoon beer. The French could take a leaf out of the German’s book and deliver these in 0.5l bottles.
